Look Within 2020

Young filmakers call for films!

Louisville Children’s Film Festival (LCFF) will be sponsoring a filmmaking competition for students in Kentucky, grades 3-9 (ages 8-14). Selected films will be screened during the Festival, February 21 – February 29, 2020.

The focus this year is Look Within 2020.

Create a short film (180 seconds/3 minutes max.)
The purpose is to Empower — Inspire — Entertain.

What qualifies my film for the competition?

  1. It must be a digital video.
  2. It must focus on the following topic: Look Within
  3. The length of the video should not exceed 180 seconds (three minutes), not including the 10 second title screen (see #4).
  4. All entries should begin with a 10 second full-screen “title screen” that includes the following information:
    1. Lead Producer’s Name
    2. School Name
    3. Title of Film
    4. Total Running Time (Not including the 10 second title screen.)
  1. An adult supervisor is allowed; however, the entire film MUST be conceived and created by the youth(s) submitting with minimal adult input.
    All work is to be that of the creator(s). Plagiarism of any kind will result in disqualification.
  2. No copyrighted music or other copyrighted materials (images, etc.) may be used for this contest unless you own the copyright or have a license to use the material for this contest. Written permission must be obtained and provided upon request for all copyrighted materials.
  3. Content must comply with all local and national laws. Content must not: 1) promote illegal behavior; 2) support racial, religious, sexual or other invidious prejudice; 3) advocate sexual or violent exploitation; 4) violate rights established by law or agreement; 5) invade the privacy of any person; or 6) be other- wise inappropriate as determined by LCFF in its sole and conclusive determination.

How do I enter my short film into the competition?

Entries require a signed and completed 2020 Festival Entry Form (one online form per entry). Note: On the entry form, please provide a link to your film. Links should not have an expiration date, and no downloadable files can be accepted.

What is the deadline to submit my short film?

The deadline for submissions is 5:00 pm (eastern time, US) on January 17, 2020.

How will my film be graded or critiqued?

The selection panel is composed of Louisville Children’s Film Festival board members and student committee members, educators and community
representatives in the arts.

Entrants will be judged on their ability to address the topic by being engaging, informative, inspiring, and creative through their film. The judges will also check adherence to these guidelines, including compliance with all terms (legality, conduct, etc.), film length, etc.

Entrants who do not conform to policies and rules may be disqualified at the discretion of LCFF, Inc. Any disqualifications are the decision of LCFF and are final.

Prizes

The winning filmmakers will receive prizes in the following categories:

Students 3-4 grades

First Place: $100
Runner-up: $50

Students 5-7 grades

First Place: $100
Runner-up: $50

Students 8-9 grades

First Place: $100
Runner-up: $50

How will I know if my film wins the competition?

All entrants will be notified on their status by email no later than February 18, 2020. Winning films will be screened during the Louisville Children’s Film Festival, February 21 — February 29, 2020.
